‘Speed Sprint’ rally begins on August 2
LUDHIANA: ‘Speed Sprint’, the famous sprint rally format of car and bike races of the country, will be held in Ludhiana on August 3 and 4. Participants from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttranchal, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Chandigarh and Panchkula will take part in the rally that will be held at Ireo Waterfront here. The rally will be organised over a specially-designed tarmac track spread over 5 km. The track is highly challenging, and will have a number of obstacles and tricky turns to test the skill of the drivers to the limit. The core team that organises the event comprises Sudev Barar, Gurpreet Singh Aulakh and Nikhil Jaspal- all of them experienced rallyists. Aulakh said the purpose behind organising the event across various locations in north India was to encourage motorsport in the country. The inaugural edition of the Speed Sprint was held in Chandigarh in September 2012, which was an instant success that drew huge participation. The demand was so high that a repeat event was held again in Chandigarh. For Speed Sprint Ludhiana, the scrutiny of vehicles will be held in the morning of August 3. Each vehicle will be tested for participation as per the stringent safety regulations of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India (FMSCI). Speed Sprint takes place on an all-tarmac track, which is a single stage event. The competitive track is closed to other traffic. Hence, the rally allows competitors a free speed dash to give their best performance.
